“What luck, for governments, that the people are stupid.” ----- Adolph Hitler
On his recent trip to Kalispell, Montana, to campaign for the local Repulblican candidate for the House, Donald Trump warned the crowd that Democrats would take away their guns. Every time I hear that the Dems would repeal the Second Amendment, I have to laugh. To remove an amendment to the Constitution, you need a new amendment to replace it. If a proposed repeal of the Second could even come to a vote, it would take 2/3 of the House and 2/3 of the Senate voting in favor, and then ¾ of the states would have to ratify. Mathematically, it’s possible. Realistically, it’s never gonna happen. Your guns are safe. It’s a non-issue.
Republicans love to scare us with non-issues. They claim there is rampant voter fraud in every polling place in America. And yet, when the government told the State of Nevada there were over 16,000 cases of fraud there, then brought officials a list of 185 individuals only to discover not a single one of the 185 was registered illegally, they haven’t backed down. Proven cases of fraud since 2020 number in the tens and more often than not involve Republicans. Again, it’s a non-issue, but boy does it fire up Trump’s base and undermine the confidence of the average voter.
Trans-gender sports people are another hot button issue. Less than one percent of the population of our country identifies as trans-gender. It is a significant number, but hardly a wave threatening heterosexual America. In the world of athletics, the number plummets. Only 1 in 50,000 college athletes identify as trans. Among Olympians the number is 1 in 100,000. The numbers are few enough to be handled on a case by case basis in whatever township or college is involved, and yet there were about 745 anti-trans bills introduced in state legislatures across America in 2025.
There are real issues of consequence to all Americans that these non-issues distract us from, but reality keeps rearing its heads. Trump’s war of choice is crippling American consumers, yet he refuses to see it. His disregard for his allies and his passionate feelings for dictators around the globe threatens the world order and world peace. The fact that America’s president is a convicted felon with ever increasingly violent ties to Jeffrey Epstein is not going away. With the mid-term elections days away, there are serious questions about how Trump will handle the results, whatever they are. Donald Trump believes that whatever is good for him is good for America, not that whatever is good for America and her people is good for him. It is a serious flaw against which we only have one real recourse, and that is to vote toxic narcissism clean out of government, up and down ballot. Dictators and would-be oligarchs like Trump think We The People are stupid. We need to show them who we really are.
